The Beechjet 400's design was based on the Diamond II Mitsubishi executive jet which Beech purchased. It was 1986 when Beechjet 400 production was announced. In 1989, Beechjet 400A aircraft were produced. Raytheon purchased the company in 2003 and the brand still remains one of the most recognized brands in the entry level market.

The design of the 400 is very good but the 400A is a whole lot better. Simply put, the 400A has more room, bigger capacity, better soundproofing and as a bonus, has a rear lavatory. The use of lighter alloys contributed greatly in the improvements from the 400 to the 400A.
